Biography

 

Helena Angell, Ph.D., has over 25 years of teaching experience in higher education, and has taught at Rollins College, the University of Florida, WVU, and in other venues. Dr. Angell has developed over 20 graduate and undergraduate courses in advertising, public relations, and mass media, and enjoys the opportunity to interact with students on all levels, both online and on-campus. Her Ph.D. in Mass Communication was completed at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Master of Arts in Mass Communication, both degrees also completed at the University of Florida.

In addition to her teaching career, Dr. Angell has been a public relations practitioner in San Francisco, Atlanta and throughout NE Florida. Her background includes developing integrated marketing campaigns for clients ranging from small non-profit organizations to large community events, such as air shows and festivals. Dr. Angell’s specialty areas are media literacy, semiotics and persuasive communication. Her media literacy curriculum interests developed through reviewing youth culture and media’s role in the development of identity and social relationships. She currently resides in St. Augustine, Florida, a resort town nestled next to the Atlantic Ocean. Her interests include water sports and enjoying the beach with her Wauzer pup, Princeton.
