A North Carolina native, Courtlyn Reeves grew up in West Jefferson before pursuing his undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Journalism. After college, Courtlyn joined Teach For America and was placed as a math teacher in a Charlotte, NC Title I high school. He later earned his master’s degree in educational leadership through the Winthrop University Leaders for Tomorrow program. He served as a dean and assistant principal at two large, comprehensive high schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools while also completing the University of Virginia’s Turnaround Principal Program through the Darden School of Business. Later, Courtlyn served as principal at Greenway Park Elementary School (CMS), an arts and science K-5 partial magnet, for three years. Reeves then led Ridge Road Middle School (CMS) as principal for three years. After 12 years with CMS, he transitioned to his current role as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Cabarrus County Schools. Courtlyn is married to his wife, Sarah, who serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Cabarrus County Schools. They have two children, Hadley (age 6) and Callahan (age 1). Reeves also serves on the board for Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF).
